Starting and Completing our Business Plans.

Our Business plan was probably one of the most time consuming parts of starting this company. Everybody was working so hard to find out information about other companies that make and sell the same product, what all we would need, calculating our sales/profits/losses, how much employees will be paid, etc.

My job was to look up all of the costs and how much we would make/spend to a weekly/yearly rate. I had to find out how much all the supplies would cost, and how much we would spend each week to make that product. I only calculated a small amount because we would not actually know how much to spend on materials until our first few days of business. But I also had to calculate how much of that money we would lose during payday. This all played into our business plan because it calculates our sales. I also had to calculate how much we would sell our product for. I had to think of a reasonable amount of money because we also had to make a profit from how much we spend to make that product.

Being Thankful for School, Family and my Community

School is a very important thing to us as children. It gives all of us the knowledge that we will need for life. These life skills are taught to us over many years of schooling, even though I am not to sure that it needed to be 12 years of schooling, but I digress. Every student should be thankful of school because it gives us all of these life lessons that we will need to survive. I am very thankful of school because for my career choice, I choose to be an Architectural Engineer, which involves a lot of math. Luckily, my school allows students to take more than one math class a year. From me moving around a lot these past couple years, I have fallen behind on my math, but since I transferred here Ive been able to sort of catch up with my math. School is a very important part of your life and I would have to say that it is a necessity for every kid. Everyone who tries, will be rewarded in life.

Family is the best part of life, they will always be there when you need them the most. Family helps you learn from your biggest and smallest mistakes, they will help you with whatever you need. Family will always get you the necessities in life and also some of the wants. Everyone should be thankful for family, even if they do lead a rough life. I am very thankful for my family because they have always been there for me when I have needed them, even though my mom does not have much faith in me and my career choice, I know she means well and will take care of me. My family has always supplied me with the things that I've wanted and needed, especially when it comes to help in school. My family has always been there and I know they always will be.

Community is the biggest part of life, a child's community will often build who they are and who they will become. The community also ties in with home life. If the child lives in a rough community, then their home life will not be much different. Most children should be thankful for their good communities because of how it builds their character. Every kid wishes they had a good community to be thankful for so the fortunate ones are usually thankful. I, myself, am pretty thankful of my community (ies) because they have taught me how to handle the worst and best situations of life. Ive lived in good places, but I have also lived in some pretty rough places. These experiences have just made me a stronger person, which is why I am thankful.

School, Family and Community are probably the most important things in life because it helps us develop, some in good ways, some in bad. Every kid is thankful for what they have been shaped up to become because those three factors have made them the way they are now.

Thoughts on Technology

Technology is an increasing object in todays society, in quantity and quality. Our technology keeps advancing daily and keeps growing more and more. I once read an article saying that "at the rate that our technology is advancing, by the year 2020, most of society will be ran by computer like technology." It is amazing that our society can keep advancing technology that much and be that dependent on it.

30 years ago, technology had just started to peak. New forms of music, new recording equipment, the first couple computers and video game consoles had been released. The only problem with the technology back then, was the development of space. Back in the 1980's, a couple gigabytes of space went for a ton of money. But now a days, you can go get a 2 Terabyte Hard Drive for $150-$200. So one way to look at the development of technology, is that the more it develops the cheaper it becomes.

Technology has also became a huge part of our schooling. In most countries (especially North America and Asia), schooling has became very dependent on technology. In most classrooms across america, schools will spend thousands of dollars on equipment just to make sure that the class can function properly. Some technical centers for schools also spend thousands of dollars because they will have specialty classes, for example, at my school (Elkins High School) we have a technical center (Randolph Technical Center) and we have a number of computer courses, but the one class that I am in down here uses Mac Computers which are a couple thousand dollars in itself plus the software that we learn to use which is another couple hundred dollars, so in just this one class, we spend more than an average family probably would in a year.

Technology has advanced so much that our society today has became so dependent on in that it is almost used everywhere. I for one love technology, but I do think that it is a bit pathetic that we have became this ignorant to everything else. Technology is one of the best parts of times today.

Business Research

Out of all the research that my team/company has done this week, we all have learned a lot. We have all had to search nearby places that sell the same product as us, and we only found a few. We have also found that we would be making quite a bit of money off of our product by just delivering and selling out of the store. Delivery is key to selling our product because the places we would sell to are near by but are not very convenient for all customers, but the store in town would be convenient to everyone who is in town.  We have also found out how to estimate our sales and how much everything would cost (business wise).

Making a Button in Adobe Flash

Adobe flash has a lot of cool opportunities and ideas, like making a button to make your story advance on through its pages or frames. To make a button, you first start out with making a shape, wether it be a circle or a square, it really doesn't matter. Then you right click on the shape and click "convert to symbol" and once you click that, make it a button. For every button you use, i would advise changing the instance name to button, button1, button2 etc. You also need to code the button to where it stops the frame when it pops up instead of it continuing on the project on its own. To code the button you type this in.

stop();

myButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, myButtonClick);

function myButtonClick(ev:MouseEvent):void
{
gotoAndPlay(2);
}

And then change the instance name "in this case" (myButton) every time you use another button.

Thoughts On Adobe Flash

This last week, our class had been working with adobe flash. In all honesty, i think it is a really cool program because of all the animations and stuff that you can do with it. This week we have been learning a bit more about the tools and commands of the programs.

We learned about how objects in frames work and how those objects wont be recorded into the frame when they aren't on stage. We also learned about how to change the color of the stage and how to add background details to our stage.

EXAM PHOTO EDIT

In this portion of my exam, I was to download a picture of a bee and a picture of a flower, I had to take the bee off of a separate photo and place it on the flower without a bee. I first started out by selecting the bee with the quick selection tool and selected all of the bee and some of the flower. After I finished selecting the bee, I went through and edited what all I had selected so that I only had the bee selected. I clicked "Edit" then "Copy" and then opened the picture of the flower and clicked "Edit" then "Paste" to get the bee on the flower. It took some adjusting, but I got the bee how I wanted it. I had to flip the selected bee horizontally and rotate it upwards. After my placing of the bee was totally complete, I lightly erased some of the surrounding edges of the bee to help blend it. I also used the Blur tool to help blur some edges around the photo to help with the realism.

Photo Assignment

This week we have been working on our photo assignment in class. There has been some difficult parts to this, but there were also some really easy parts.

The easiest part to me would have to be they greyscale photo because you just edit the mode and switch the photo to greyscale, but thats not all you do. You also had to edit the brightness and contrast of the photo and make it have more than just true black and true white. The photo should also have different shades of blacks (greys) and whites.

The most difficult part of this assignment has been the poster because I had a hard time thinking of a quote to go with the photo. It took me literally 15 minutes to think up a quote to go with my photo.

Favorite 2 Photos

I like this photo the most because it is very interesting, it focuses on the bark in front of the lens and blurs out the rest of the tree. The photo shows great detail and has a variety of color. It kind of reminds me of taking a nap under a tree and just looking up.

I like this photo a lot because it shows a variety of light, it is very dark and has deep colors around it, but in the right center, it has brightness and brighter colors.

Starting and Developing a Company

In the past two weeks, we started making our companies. To develop a company, it takes time and loads of effort on everyones part. Every person needs to work in unison and be compatible. Starting a company may seem easy, but I learned that it is a lot more difficult than you think. There are many key factors that tie into starting a company: coming up with time schedules, work efforts, devotion, ideas, etc. To me, it seemed like it would be simple. In reality, it is extremely complex and is very time consuming.

Favorite Activity

My favorite activity through this first 6 weeks is probably our liquify stage. When we used liquify, it was just something new because  you could warp a picture any way you really wanted to and it was a new experience. The only down side to that activity was having to type the story for that project.

We used photoshop to create the characters in our story, but we used the liquify tool to edit the aspects and looks of a photo. Liquify lets you warp, twist, bloat and pecker selected spots. We had to make a story for our characters too, which was really fun because the creativity with the story was really high.

Making Logos

This last week, we created some logos for our class, RTC Industrial Maintenance and RTC Auto Service. It was interesting because on the first day, everyone was trying to make all of these abstract and elaborate logos and thinking "This will look sweet on a T-Shirt!" But after we turned in those logos, Mrs.s Stalnaker told us to Keep It Super Simple (KISS THEORY). She told us to keep the logos simple because you cant really have an elaborate logo on a T-Shirt because it is just too hard, so you gotta have something simple but cool. She told us that it was good to remember that because, if its too complex, it wont work.

Thoughts on Adobe Illustrator

On Friday (September 5th), we were introduced to Adobe Illustrator. Illustrator is like Photoshop in many ways, but is also very different. Photoshop, the photos have pixels, while in Illustrator, everything created in Illustrator is made out of vectors.

Vectors are line segments that are smooth and do not contain pixels. If you place anything in Illustrator, you can zoom in as far as possible and still see no pixels, this is because of the vectors. Photoshop on the other hand, contains pixels and the more you zoom in, the more you begin to see those pixels. Photoshop is more of a photo editor, when Illustrator is more of a graphic designer for logos.

In all honesty, I'd have to say that I like Adobe Photoshop, because its a bit harder to use and you can do quite a bit more in it. The only thing that I like about Adobe Illustrator is the fact that you have a bit more creative tools in it to help you "Illustrate" your photo.

What Is DPI? New Photoshop Tools?

DPI stands for Dots Per-Inch and we learned that the internet can only hold 72 DPI or else your just wasting space. The DPI for the web is automatically set for 72 DPI because if its over 72, it will automatically be changed to 72 because there are too many pixels and it wastes space on the web page. When we print pictures, we will set the DPI for the picture at 300, im not too sure why its specifically 300, but it adds more pixels and makes the picture look a whole lot better. We print at 300 DPI because the printer can handle it at 300.

This week we learned a few new tools in photoshop. My favorite tools that we learned how to use are the: The Lasso Tool, The Quick Selection Tool, and The Magic Wand Tool. The Lasso Tool allows us to select parts of an image, but its used for free-hand selection. The Quick Selection Tool is used to select certain areas but that area has like (common) pixels (color wise). The Magic Wand Tool lets you do the Same thing but you just click instead of click and drag.

Favorite Activity this Week

We have done so much this week, went over safty, reviewed photoshop, traced photos, feathered photos, its just been an exciting first "official" week of school this week. Honestly my favorite activity this week would have to be the "Face Trace" because it was just so time consuming, and it was so much fun. It was also really interesting to see how the others in my class did too. Everyone did amazing by the way. We started out the activity by getting partners, my partner was Zandra. The partners were only for pictures but its okay. We opened the photo in Adobe Photoshop and started drawing outlines of facial features, clothing, hair, body outline, etc. When we started drawing, we used the pencil tool and set the tip of the point to 1% so it would be a super fine line. For every facial features and clothing "eyes, nose, mouth, hair, clothing," you would add a new layer and name it after that thing you were drawing, for example, if I was to be tracing her mouth, the layer on the photo would be called "mouth." It was just too much fun, the whole experience was too great.

EQ 1

My strengths help me work efficiently. Speed, accuracy, strength, these are all a part of my strengths. Most of the time, one of my weaknesses help out my strengths because I compensate for that weakness. I don't let my OCD get the best of my work but it somewhat helps my strengths. Efficiency is crucial in a workplace to me because it shows how well I do my work and how fast I can get that work done. Accuracy will show my Boss or CEO or Manager that I can do my work correctly, shows what I know and don't know.

My OCD does get the best of me sometimes but it mainly helps me do my work correctly, if it isn't perfect to me, I cannot use it or ill have to fix it. Everything has to be correct to me so if one little thing is wrong than I correct it and make it better, its like a competition with myself, I push myself to try harder.

Why should I be hired, this is a good question because I cannot answer it really, its up to you. My list of qualifications and skills show what i have and don't have. You should hire me because of my work ethics and my efficiency.
